A hand-held color sensor that integrates cutting-edge light technology to compute accurate spectral values, regardless of ambient light. Accurate color captures for color professionals to quickly match paint, textiles, carpet, tile, accessories and more.
The Color Muse device is the latest color scanning technology that allows you to scan smooth or textured surfaces. Defer to LRV data provided by manufacturer if available. Use a certified color lab for requirements beyond reasonably informative guidelines.
You can also change the instrument to a number of different indices to measure color difference , whiteness , yellowness, opacity and strength. But nowhere in these lists are any indications of the LRV of the color you are measuring.
What is the LRV and why is it important? There are even Transportation and Building Safety codes requiring LRV values and differences in LRV values for signage near emergency exits, both in buildings and on airplanes. So, how does one obtain the LRV value of a paint color?
Many paint companies actually post the LRV value of a color right on the fandeck of colors. This is quite important. To set up the spectro-guide to measure the LRV, move to the Option menu at the top of the screen. Under Option, move down to Color Sys. Move to the right and select either XYZ or Yxy for the color system. It defined that the visual contrast would be sufficient if the LRV of contrasting surfaces, with illumination greater than lux, differs by a minimum of 20 points.
This measurement can be conducted easily using a sphere-based spectrophotometer like Konica Minolta Spectrophotometer CMd that has a calibration certificate that is traceable to international standards.
For instance, a door handle and door may be acceptable with a difference of only 15 points. The higher the value obtained for LRV, the greater the amount of light that is being reflected. A value of represents total reflectance of light by an object therefore, it appears white and 0 indicates total absorption of light black. This method will give an accurate value for the LRV of a material at the point at which it is measured. Hence, where a new material is measured, issues such as fading due to weathering or factors resulting from installation such as lighting will not be taken into account.
For general surfaces — including carpet specimens — this shall be at least mm x mm. The sample submitted is divided into a grid and measurements taken at each point where the grid lines cross.
The grid and measurement points for a mm x mm sample are shown in figure 1 as an example. It can also be used with multi-coloured surfaces.
